Teams that score only two points in the last quarter of a basketball game don’t often win, but that was the case in the Ram boys varsity game with the Roland-Story Norsemen in Jefferson Tuesday. Despite the freeze, the Rams won 55-47 to go to 31 overall and in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
The Rams held a 53-38 lead at the end of the third quarter. They didn’t score again until Trey Hinote made a free throw with less than one minute to play in the game. Wade Adcock added another free throw for the only two points in the quarter.
The Rams took seven shots from the floor in the quarter and missed them all. To their benefit, the visiting Norsemen made only three shots of the 15 they put up.
Hinote matched his season high, scoring 24 points for the game. That brought him out of a shooting slump, as he made a total of six points in the previous two games. Hinote’s total included five 3-point shots.
Joe Towers had nine points, all on 3-pointers. Adcock and Lance Hughes scored seven each, while Jordan Patterson and Carter Morton added four each.
Adcock led in rebounds with 10. Towers had seven.
The sixth-ranked Roland-Story girls used 18 unanswered points in the first quarter to set the stage for a 70-32 win over the Rams. R-S is now 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
Turnovers tell of the mismatch between teams. R-S committed 11 turnovers while Greene County committed 26.
Laurin Lyons led the Rams in scoring with eight points, all in the first half. She also led in rebounds with eight. Ashley Millard had seven points and Bailey Cunningham had six. Samantha Hardaway and Onica Delp scored four points each and Izzy Bravard scored three points.
